class I died of thirst and talked about site and situation- New York

During this class we had to turn the air down and I was really hot because I was wearing sweatpants and a flannel and I was VERY thirsty. BUTTTTTTT, Mr. Schick wouldn't let me go refill my water bottle. So, I sat there slowly dying from the inside out because I was so thirsty. However SOMEHOW I made it threw the class without passing out. For the rest of the class while I sat there slowly getting closer to death we talked about site and situation more. We talked about how back in the olden days Ellis Island in New York , which is now Manhattan, used to be half the size. It was such a great location that they wanted to make it larger, so they put trash and dirt in the water around it and aded to the island and then built on top of it.

Pop Quiz!! Site and Situation Discussion

Today we were given a pop quiz on the regions of the world and the continents. It wasn't really very hard but I think I got two wrong. I haven't checked by comparing it to my other paper because I'm scared to look hahahah but I think I did a pretty okay job. After we took our quiz we discussed what we read about the other day when he wasn't there. He talked to us about the difference and then we talked about how different places even just around the U.S have different cultures. Like her in Maryland we eat crabs while people from other parts of the U.S don't eat them like us and think its kinda weird. We have this tradition because of our site. The Chesapeake Bay is located right within your state which is a great place to get them,, therefore thats why we eat them so much. Other places don't have that.

Maps

Today in class we spent a lot of the class checking out blogs with Mr. Schick. He gave us feedback on wha we should be changing and what we were doing well . He told me that my blog was great and he liked the way I had things set up. He also told me he liked my hook on my blog about our nothing class. He asked me if he could read it to the class and I said yes and they laughed. It was " Today I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into the room and I didn't start immediately sweating." Then we went over our maps of the regions. I got almost all of them right except Southeast Asia I think.

Each place on earth is Unique

Today to start off class we watched the fire drill video that the tv production class made during our first fire drill. It was a really good video and I'm proud of our tv production class for making such a great video. https://jcpatriot.com/video/2017/09/20/first-fire-drill-held-with-new-changes/  After we all watched the video we talked about things that make places in the world unique. Each place on earth is in some respects unique and another ways similar to other places. The interplay between the uniqueness of each place and the similarities among places lies at the heart of geographic questioning about why things are found where they are. Two basic concepts help geographers to explain why very point on earth is in one way unique---- place and region. The difference between two concepts is partly a matter of scale: A place is a point, whereas a region is an area.

Mental Map

Today I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into class and I didn't immediately start sweating. Turns out we had got a new air conditioner over night or yesterday or this morning or something. Doesn't really matter to me when we got it but we did and I love it!! It was the first time in a while that I've been in that class without having to put my hair up or roll up my sleeves and it was great. Also, another thing that makes it even better is that were calling it faith! Its named after me! She's great, kinda loud, but she's super cool. Aside from all the excitement that splurged from the new air conditioner or faith I guess I should call her, he had kind of a fun class. We took a lit bit of notes and drew some maps. We drew maps of our drive to school in the morning and of the world. The notes we took were,, A mental map is a persons point-of-view perception of their area of interaction, most commonly called your activity space.

Nothing Class

Today's class was so much fun. He gave us time to do our homework which was really great because I had a long night. It was good day though. My first class I opened my laptop an there was a note on it that my brother had left that said "Have a Great Day Love You!" It really made my day because he left yesterday and I was a sad about it. He lives in New York so I don't get to see him that much. It was really good to see him or the weekend. The note was so sweet of him and I'm so happy he did it. But the res of my day was also really good. Human Geo we got to do our homework and and listen to music so that was great. Also, in intro to bible we played Kahoot and it was really fun. I got first place one of the times!! My other classes were good but kinda boring though but not hard. Right now I'm facetiming this really annoying kid that wot leave me alone and he's a fatty mcbutter butt. But were really good friends and he's not really annoying I'

Mercator and Peters

Today in class we talked about two different types of maps. We talked about  the Peter's map and the Mercator map. The Mercator map was written by a German man to help sailors. The Mercator map is what we use most often and what most kids in America are taught in school. Even though Mercator is taught in most school, the Peters map is more accurate. The Peters map looks more distorted to us since were not used to seeing it, however it is more accurate. The Mercator map looks for normal to us since we're used to seeing it, but is is less accurate. The Mercator takes things that are further away for the equator and closer to the poles and stretches them out. This messes with social equality. We see things that are bigger and towards the top as more important than others. So, when the Mercator makes things bigger than they really are or smaller than they really are, it messes with the places social power or presence in our world. Also, an upside down map really doesn't m

Thinking geographically,, Key questions-answers

Today we started our new unit, Thinking Geographically. Our key questions were to think about while we were learning were How do geographers describe where things are? Why is each point on earth unique? Why are different places similar? Why are some actions unsustainable We learned that regions are a highly contested yet important concept in the study Human Geography snd can be studied as they relate to space, place, and location. Regions allow us to generalize about a common characteristic so we can better group them. How are Mexico and the United States similar and different? Same hemisphere Language barrier Mexico considered poorer ^^ Economy difference Climate difference ^^architecture is different ^^crop A formal region is an area with a high level of consistency in a certain culture or physical attribute. Formal regions are uniform or homogenous. Areas where everyone in the region shares common attributes or traits like language, climate, or political syste

Test

Today in class we took a test on what we've been going over for the past two weeks. On the test there was stuff about Socrates, A Message to Garcia, Ancient Athens Greece and some of the vocabulary words we learned. I think I did pretty well except for some spelling and one of the written responses. I though that the test was really fair and all the questions were really good. Hopefully I got a good grade on it and I think I got at least a b.        The word I think I spelled wrong was perihelion and but I knew it was the answer. The written response I had trouble on was the me about being called to an ancient gathering place. I said agora but I don't think thats right. I feel really good about the multiple choice questions though! Also I think I did very well on the question about the Socrates quote.

9/11 and test review

Today in class since its the anniversary of the terrorist attack in New York, we talked about that day. we went around and shared if we knew anyone who was there. Me, Chase and Kelsie all knew someone who was either there or supposed to be. Then, Mr. Schick went into detail about his experience on that day. It was cool and sad too hear about someones experience that actually lived through that day.        After we talked about 9/11,, we started to review for out test we're having tomorrow. We reviewed the slides we've gone over in class and asked questions. He told us about some of the questions that will be on the test. He said some about the definitions we went over, some about Socrates, some about A Message to Garcia and about the overall theme of excellence. Tonight while I study my notes for the test, along with remembering the material, I will have to ask myself the question; How does the all come back to excellance?

Socrates

Today in class we dove deeper into Socrates. However first we talked about Athens. Athens was a great city that attracted brilliant workers. Visitors from all over travelled there and shared their knowledge. They shared their knowledge of astronomy, medicine, meteorology, literature, philosophy, and a lot of other scientific things. Athens was often at odds with traditional teachings which centered around Greek Gods, which got young people thinking and questioning.        Socrates was charged with two crimes. He was charged with the corruption of Athens' youth. Impiety which believing in the Gods of the state.        His defense to these accusations was that its his job is to be a gadfly to the lazy sluggish horse that is Athens. He believed he should actually be rewarded with free dinners for life for all the things he does.        He was put up against a jury of 500 Male citizens who found him guilty. The vote was 279-221. He was sentenced to death by drinking hemlock po

This is also the spiritual, athletic and political center of the area. Polis - Polis is a city-state in ancient Greece, especially as considered as its ideal form for philosophical purposes. This word literally means city in Greek. It can also mean a body of citizens. The importance of 508 BC in Athens Greece - This is the year that democracy was introduced. Excellance

Today in class we learned about excellence. We started off by learning more about Edward Hubbard's essay, A Message to Garcia. This was written as an inspirational essay in March of 1899. It was such a popular piece of writing that it was turned into a pamphlet and sold in many places. About 40 million copies were sold, written in 37 languages. It was even made into two movies. it was made into a short film and a full length 90 minute movie.  The reason we talked about this essay in our lesson about excellence is that's mostly what his essay is about. He talks about how he feels that is needed in society.           The essays set in the Spanish-American war. Garcia was a revolutionary seeking Cuban independence from Spain. Rowan was a West Point army officer. Lastly, McKinley was the president at the time. That means that the message that Rowan was sent to deliver was probably the most official letter he could carry. This was called a missive. A missive is a lette
